13th May 2008
ATOC
National Rail launches its new leaflet for disabled people, Rail Travel Made Easy on May 18th. The new leaflet is designed to give a comprehensive over view to disabled rail passengers on traveling on Britain’s passenger railway.

In conjunction with the publication of the leaflet, Train Operators have announced that the price of the Disabled Persons Railcard will be frozen for another year at £18. The three year Railcard which costs £48 will also be frozen for another year. The Disabled Persons Railcard gives 1/3 off most rail tickets and remains excellent value. The leaflet contains information on how you can apply for a Disabled Persons Railcard.

David Sindall Head of Disability & Inclusion said “We want more disabled people to actively consider using trains. Many disabled people are impressed by the improvements made to rail travel in recent years. ‘Rail Travel Made Easy’ gives rail users important information that will improve the quality of their travelling experience”.

It also contains contact details for customers who want to book assistance (including the new train operating companies such as National Express East Coast, CrossCountry, and National Express East Anglia).

The leaflet shows people with a wide-range of disabilities using rail services and all the models used were all disabled people.

The leaflet can be downloaded in large print and Easy Read formats from www.disabledpersons-railcard.co.uk and is also available in braille and audio versions on request from the Disabled Persons Railcard office.
