Mike Alexander - Chairman, ATOC

Mike Alexander, recently Chief Executive Officer of British Energy plc and Chief Operating Officer of Centrica plc (then British Gas plc), became Chairman of ATOC on 12th March 2008.

Mike Alexander gained a first-class honours degree in Chemical Engineering and an MSc in Process Control Engineering from the University of Manchester. He joined BP and spent 25 years in increasingly senior management positions covering exploration and production projects, IT line management and international business development.

He joined Centrica plc (then British Gas plc) eventually becoming Chief Operating Officer and leading the group's business transformation projects. From 2003 to 2005 he was Chief Executive Officer of British Energy plc and, in conjunction with government support, led the highly successful operational and financial reconstruction, prior to a re-flotation on the London Stock Exchange in January 2005.

Since then he has been a director of a number of companies and now, in addition to his role in ATOC, he is a non-executive member of the board of Costain Plc, an independent director of the UK Payments Council, chair of TGE Marine Gmbh and an adviser to Marwyn Investment Management LLP.

Mike Alexander has extensive executive and board experience at a very senior level and has a reputation for making things happen and managing change.
