First ScotRail delivers another £1million in station facility enhancements

7th April 2008
First ScotRail
As part of their ongoing investment to deliver improved facilities at stations and on trains, First ScotRail has spent over £1million on bringing further enhancements to a number of stations across the Central belt.

This latest round of investment focuses on three main areas - Customer Information Systems (CIS), public toilets and covered waiting facilities - at 18 stations.

In March, around £300k was spent on installing CIS screens at 10 stations. The screens use modern technology to provide the latest service information along with safety and general notices to customers whilst on the platforms.

Greenock Central, Burnside, Blairhill, Patterton, Saltcoats, Crosshill, Muirend, Neilston and Queens Park stations, as well as platforms 9 and 10 at Stirling Station, now have CIS in operation, bringing the total number of stations with this facility to 159 across the network.

Also this month, an additional £340k investment delivered waiting facilities at four stations. These were; waiting rooms at Kilmarnock and Helensburgh Central stations within the existing buildings; a Virtual Ticket Office at Clarkston complete with heated waiting room, ticket vending machine and seating and two waiting shelters on the Glasgow bound platform at Cambuslang Station.

Work has started on installing public toilets at the Exhibition Centre, Bishopton, Bellshill and Anniesland at an investment of over £370k. This is programmed for completion by the end of April.

Peter Williams, Commercial Director at First ScotRail said, “This latest round of investment reflects our ongoing commitment to improving the overall customer journey experience through the provision of a range of facilities. From the latest journey information to increased comfort, we are driving forward and delivering a public transport service which meets the needs of our customers.”

Bill Reeve, Transport Scotland’s Head of Rail Delivery said, “We are delighted that passengers will benefit from this investment. Small improvements such as these can make a big difference to the rail user’s experience and encourage more people to opt for public transport.”
