Overview
First Capital Connect commenced operations on 1st April 2006, combining the operations of Thameslink and WAGN. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of First Group.

The new franchise has been awarded by the DfT for a minimum of four years, which will automatically continue for a further two years if performance targets are met.

After the end of year six, the DfT has discretion as to whether to continue for all or part of a further three years. The DfT has introduced this flexibility in order to allow for the uncertainty surrounding the Thameslink 2000 project and its impact upon the franchise.
