First ScotRail operates almost all services in Scotland, including the Glasgow and Edinburgh commuter services, services to Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness, and all local and rural services.
The company also operates Glasgow - Carlisle local services (via Dumfries) and the Caledonian Sleeper service from London Euston to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Inverness and Fort William.
Inter-City services from England to Scotland are provided by both GNER and Virgin Trains, which operate services from Glasgow to Carlisle (direct) as well as some services from Edinburgh to Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness.
